Introduction to the Disney Dining Plan

The Disney Dining Plan has become a popular option for visitors to Walt Disney World. It offers a convenient and cost-effective way to enjoy meals at various restaurants within the parks and resorts. However, like any other package add-on at Disney World, it also has its pros and cons. In this article, we will explore both sides of the coin to help you decide if the Disney Dining Plan is right for you.

What is the Disney Dining Plan?

The Disney Dining Plan is a pre-paid meal plan offered to guests staying at select Disney-owned hotels. It allows guests to enjoy a predetermined number of meals and snacks per day at participating restaurants throughout their stay. The plan includes table service meals, quick service meals, and snacks, depending on the chosen package. It provides a structured approach to dining, making it easier for guests to plan and budget their meals during their vacation.

Pros of the Disney Dining Plan

1. Convenience and Simplicity

The Disney Dining Plan offers a hassle-free experience. Guests can simply swipe their Key to the World cards or MagicBands to “pay” for their meals, without the need to carry cash or credit cards. This adds convenience and simplifies the dining process, especially for families with young children.

Instead of worrying about individual costs of items, family members can enjoy an entree, desert, and drink as long as the restaurant participates in the Disney Dining Plan. In fact, for those guests over the age of 21, one alcoholic beverage can be enjoyed per meal if the restaurant offers alcoholic beverages.

2. Cost Savings

The Disney Dining Plan can provide significant cost savings, especially for those who plan to dine at table service restaurants or those that enjoy expensive items like steak at their table service meals. By pre-paying for meals, guests can enjoy savings compared to paying out of pocket for each meal. In addition, the plan can help control expenses as the cost of dining is already included in the vacation package, creating almost an “all-inclusive” feel to most of their vacation.

3. Access to a Wide Variety of Dining Options

With the Disney Dining Plan, guests have access to a wide range of dining options, from quick service restaurants to signature dining experiences. There are over 100 participating restaurants to choose from, allowing guests to indulge in various cuisines and dining atmospheres.

Whether a guest wants plenty of character meals, quick service options, or one-of-a-kind dining experiences, the Disney Dining Plan offers guests the ability to choose restaurants that will make their vacation even more magical and unique to their family.

4. Character Dining Experiences

Another advantage of the Disney Dining Plan is the opportunity to enjoy character dining experiences. These meals combine delicious food with meet and greet opportunities with beloved Disney characters. It’s a great way for families to make lasting memories and capture photos with their favorite characters.

Whether it’s the buffet experience at Chef Mickey’s in the Contemporary Resort with the classic characters, or the unique rotating Garden Grill at the Land Pavilion at EPCOT with Chip ‘n Dale, guests are sure to have plenty of options to dine with characters all over the Walt Disney World Resort property.

Cons of the Disney Dining Plan

1. Restrictions on Flexibility

One of the main drawbacks of the Disney Dining Plan is the lack of flexibility. The plan requires guests to adhere to a predetermined number of meals and snacks per day. If guests don’t use all their allocated credits, they risk wasting them. This can be problematic for those who prefer a more spontaneous dining experience or have unpredictable eating patterns.

Additionally, since several signature dining experiences use multiple dining credits, if a guest wishes to dine at one of these using the Disney Dining Plan they will not have enough dining credits for their entire trip. This will mean either paying out of pocket for extra meals or skipping meals altogether to make up for those extra credits used on one meal.

2. Potential for Overeating

The all-inclusive nature of the Disney Dining Plan may tempt guests to overindulge in meals and snacks, leading to unnecessary weight gain and discomfort. The unlimited access to food can be a challenge for those trying to maintain a healthy diet, especially with the abundance of tempting treats throughout the parks.

Also, while most individuals may not enjoy a desert at every meal, the Disney Dining Plan practically forces the guests to have one. Oftentimes, because the amount of food can be overwhelming, a lot of wasted food is left behind.

3. Limited Availability at Certain Restaurants

While the Disney Dining Plan includes a wide selection of participating restaurants, some popular eateries may have limited availability. It’s essential to make advanced dining reservations when your advanced dining reservation window opens to secure a table at sought-after locations. Without reservations, guests may find their choices restricted or need to be flexible with their dining schedule.

Additionally, because of the popularity of the Disney Dining Plan, guests often find that finding a “quiet” spot to eat on property to enjoy a family meal is nearly impossible. Also, walk-up availability is basically non-existent when the Disney Dining Plan is offered at a table service restaurant.

4. No Refunds for Unused Credits

Another downside of the Disney Dining Plan is that unused dining credits cannot be refunded. If guests fail to utilize all their allocated credits during their stay, they will lose out on the value of those meals. This reinforces the need for careful planning and tracking of credits to avoid wastage.

Oftentimes, when our family has used the Disney Dining Plan, we end up with several snack credits left on our last day of vacation. This usually leads to our children having a shopping spree at a gift shop getting snack after snack to take home with them so we are not leaving with wasted Disney Dining Plan credits.

5. May not be Cost-Effective for Everyone

While the Disney Dining Plan can offer savings for many guests, it may not be the most cost-effective option for everyone. Those who prefer quick service meals or have smaller appetites may find that paying out of pocket for meals is more economical. It’s important to assess individual eating habits and preferences before committing to the plan.

If you have a small appetite, sharing meals may be a better option for your family. This is a way to save a good deal of money compared to paying for the Disney Dining Plan.

Comparison with Paying Out of Pocket

For visitors to Disney parks who prefer more flexibility and spontaneity, paying out of pocket for meals might be a better option. It allows guests to choose their meals based on their appetite, cravings, and restaurant availability. However, it’s essential to budget and plan accordingly, as dining costs can quickly accumulate. Comparing the prices of menus and considering the types of dining experiences desired can help make an informed decision.

There are several resources online where you can find current pricing, including the Disney World website, which will help you budget accordingly.

Tips for Maximizing the Value

1. Make advanced dining reservations: As mentioned earlier, advanced dining reservations are crucial to secure table service meals at popular restaurants. Walk-up availability is almost non-existent at participating restaurants, making advanced reservations even more important.

2. Opt for higher-priced items: When using the dining plan, consider selecting higher-priced items to maximize the value and get the most out of the credits. Additionally, consider eating at restaurants with a higher price point overall.

Choosing a buffet over a steakhouse may not be a wise use of credits price-wise, but if you are looking for a more “Disney” experience the buffet may have characters, which can lead to a more magical experience.

3. Share meals to save credits: Some meals at Disney restaurants are large enough to share between two people. Sharing can help save credits for other meals or snacks.

Keep in mind this tip may only work at quick service restaurants, as table service locations generally will not allow the sharing of meals for guests using the Disney Dining Plan.

4. Use snack credits for souvenirs: Snack credits can be used for snacks or drinks sold at various locations within the parks. Look for snack items that can double as souvenirs, allowing for a more enjoyable and cost-effective use of credits.

As mentioned earlier, guests can save their snack credits until the last day of their vacation and load up on snacks before leaving for home.

5. Keep track of credits and plan ahead: It’s essential to keep track of the number of credits used and remaining throughout the trip. Plan meals and snacks in advance to avoid wasting any credits.

Also, keep up with your remaining credits on each receipt you receive. The My Disney Experience App is also a great way to keep track of your credit usage.

Is the Disney Dining Plan Worth It?

The answer to whether the Disney Dining Plan is worth it depends on individual preferences, budget, and eating habits. For those who value convenience, a structured experience, and the opportunity to dine at various restaurants without worrying about the cost, the Disney Dining Plan can offer great value. However, it requires careful planning, making advanced dining reservations, and being conscious of the potential limitations and restrictions it presents.

In conclusion, the Disney Dining Plan can be a fantastic option for guests looking for a convenient and cost-effective way to enjoy meals during their visit to the Walt Disney World Resort. It offers a range of benefits, including convenience, cost savings, access to diverse dining options, and character dining experiences. However, it’s essential to consider the limitations and potential pitfalls of the plan, such as lack of flexibility, potential overeating, limited availability at certain restaurants, no refunds for unused credits, and the need to assess personal dining habits and preferences. By weighing the pros and cons, guests can make an informed decision that suits their needs.

1. A Suitcase with Wheels

First, if you don’t already, invest in a sturdy and reliable suitcase with wheels.  Not only will this help you maneuver the airport for flights, but should you decide to carry it on the ship rather than checking it, you will love the ability to move through tight spaces.  Additionally, should you choose to check your bags with the porters prior to embarkation, having that sturdy hard shell suitcase will protect any valuables you have while your suitcase is being transported with thousands of other pieces of luggage!

2. Reef-safe Sunscreen

Next, and quite honestly, probably the most important thing to pack for a cruise, is some high-quality sunscreen with a high SPF for protection from the sun!  Also, be sure to get reef-safe sunscreen, as many places in the Caribbean will only allow reef-safe sunscreen!

3. Motion Sickness Medication

If you are someone that gets motion sick quite easily, it may be a good idea to invest in some motion sickness medication.  Although today’s modern cruise ships are huge and less susceptible to large movements in the water, there is no guarantee you won’t feel the ship moving from time to time.  You don’t want to be in the middle of dinner or a show and all of a sudden have a bout of motion sickness hit you!

4. Cell Phone Power Bank

Although some of us go on a cruise to unplug and get away from electronics for a little while, there’s some of us that also don’t have that luxury.  This is why a cell phone power bank is a must have.  It comes in handy for those long days on shore, or for just laying around the pool!  Always be certain your phone will have enough juice, and buying one with built in cords will be more convenient than having to also worry about carrying extra cords with you!

5. Crossbody Bag

I discussed this in my blog on Disney World Essentials, but a comfortable crossbody bag will also come in handy on a cruise!  Whether you use it as a carryon for your embarkation day, or as a bag to take ashore on any port days, you will be glad you invested in this while exploring!

6. Waterproof Pouch for Cell Phone

Another great item to take along with you on a cruise is a waterproof pouch for your cell phone.  Not only will it protect a very expensive item, but it will allow you to have your camera handy during water excursions to help capture those lifelong memories!

7. Waterproof Floating Dry Bag for Excursions

Another handy cruise essential to keep your belongings dry is to invest in a waterproof floating dry bag.  In the event you have water excursions planned, these bag will keep your important items safe and dry!  You don’t want to risk your passport getting ruined by saltwater while you are trying to enjoy your vacation!

8. Over-the-Door Shoe Organizer

Space in your cabin will be at a premium, so consider purchasing an over-the-door shoe organizer.  This can be used to hold several items and keep things nice and tidy in your room.  Nothing makes your room feel even smaller than clutter!  Best of all, they are so inexpensive, you won’t feel bad leaving it in the trash when you disembark!

9. Travel Noise Machine

You never know what kind of neighbors you will have on a cruise ship, or even how noisy the hall will be.  That’s why bringing a travel noise machine will be handy!  Be sure to get a good night’s sleep with the help of this little machine!

10. TRAVEL INSURANCE!

The final item on my cruise “must-have” list is something I recommend to all my clients, especially those cruising during hurricane season.  TRAVEL INSURANCE!  While you can purchase “travel protection” through the cruise lines, generally that is only going to cover things tied to the cruise, whether that be a missed port, a cancelled cruise, etc.  However, a travel insurance plan from a third party can cover much more, including flight delays, lost luggage, “cancel for any reason” options, and much more!  I will be happy to quote you travel insurance for any of your upcoming trips, and if you are someone that travels quite often, having an annual travel insurance policy could be a lifesaver!  Both my wife and I have annual travel plans.  The cost is very cheap for the amount of money we could lose should anything happen while we are traveling, so I highly recommend it for all travelers!

By purchasing these essential items, you’ll be well-prepared and equipped for the adventures that lay ahead on your dream cruise vacation. Remember, planning and organization are key for a stress-free and enjoyable voyage.

In conclusion, a successful cruise vacation relies on being prepared and having the right items at your disposal. By investing in these essential items, you’ll ensure a smooth and unforgettable journey while effortlessly navigating your way through the vast ocean and enjoying all the wonders a cruise has to offer. Bon Voyage!

Surviving a long day at a Walt Disney World theme park can be a daunting task, but you can make it much easier on yourself by taking a few essentials with you in your park bag before heading out the door for the day. Some of these items may seem obvious to you, but others may not be something you would necessarily think of needing just on a normal day out. Let’s talk about what items you need in your Disney park bag to make your day a little more manageable.

**This post may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon associate, I earn money from qualifying purchases.**

A Bag!

First and foremost, and this should go without saying, you need a bag! While there are several different styles to choose from, we always opt for taking a crossbody bag of some type. It tends to be a little more comfortable on your back, and if one shoulder gets tired from carrying it, you can swap it around and wear it opposite on your other shoulder anytime you need a break! Make sure you get a bag big enough to carry your necessities, but keep in mind a long day in the parks mean comfort is key so don’t go too big!

We have always found the Kavu Crossbody bags are the best for accomplishing the tasks of carrying what we need and being comfortable over an extended period of time. There are many styles available, which can come in handy so the dads out there aren’t stuck carrying around a not-so-manly print!

A Loungefly Bag?

Another popular option you will see all over the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks are the small backpacks produced by Loungefly. They come in all different styles, so there is sure to be one that fits your style!

One drawback of the Loungefly-style bags are they tend to be on the smaller side, so if you tend to need to carry a lot of items, such as if you have a small child or medical needs, this bag may not be for you.

A Charging Bag?

Another option for a park bag is one that comes with a charging capability for your cell phone. Your cell phone has become a necessity during any visit to a Walt Disney World theme park, and having a bag that allows you to charge your phone while still using it can be a lifesaver. It works by keeping a power bank in the bag, oftentimes connected to a port inside, which then connects to your charging cable on the outside of the bag. This can help keep a hand free rather than lugging around a power bank in one hand and your phone in the other.

Medication Cooling Bag

This travel medication cooling bag comes in handy for those of you that have medication needs throughout the day that require the medication to stay cool, such as insulin. It is small enough to fit in your bigger backpack which will help keep it out of direct sunlight and stay cooler longer through those long, hot Central Florida days in the theme parks.

Moleskin for Blisters

Walking around the theme parks at Walt Disney World all day in the Central Florida heat isn’t always a friend to your feet. Having some moleskin on hand to treat blisters as they start to form will be a lifesaver to keep you from being miserable on those long days. Trust me, your feet will thank you for including this in your park bag!

SUNSCREEN!

No one enjoys coming back from their vacation looking like a freshly boiled lobster, so investing in sunscreen can be a lifesaver (literally!). This sunscreen from Banana Boat is great for your kids because not only is it tear free but it is also sting free. You should have no objections to spraying your kids throughout the day with this sunscreen and protecting them from the often brutal Central Florida rays.

Rain Ponchos for the Family

Just as brutal as the Central Florida sun can be the random downpours that pop up out of nowhere. Nothing is worse than being stuck without a poncho and having to either trudge around soaked the rest of the day, or make an unexpected early return to your resort to change. Always keep a few of these cheap, disposable ponchos in your bag as a safety net. Don’t rely on the ponchos sold at almost every merchandise location at Disney. They are obviously going to be expensive, and from my experience, since my head is of a larger nature, it never fails that I rip the thing the first time I try to put it on!

A Reusable Water Bottle

A water bottle may be the most important item to take with you to the parks for a few reasons. First, you absolutely need to stay hydrated in the Central Florida heat that can oftentimes approach 100 degrees in the middle of the Summer. Secondly, it will save you a ton of money rather than paying Walt Disney World prices each time you need a bottle of water. Take an insulated water bottle and fill it up each time you are near a water fountain. Cast members may not fill it up for you at quick service locations, but cups of water are free at these locations, so simply ask for a cup of water or two and fill it up yourself.

Neck Fan

Battling the heat during your trip to the Walt Disney World Resort may oftentimes feel like a losing proposition, so anything that can help you combat the sweltering heat and humidity should be given consideration. Enter the neck fan. Yes, I know, you don’t want to be “that” person, but sometimes you just have to make sacrifices in the interest of your own comfort!

Cooling Towels for the Family

As you have probably noticed by now, a good number of the items I recommend for your park bag involve beating that unrelenting Central Florida heat and humidity. That is no exception with the next item on my list. Cooling towels are an engineering marvel. You wet them with cool water, wring the excess moisture out, and the towel keeps you cool for a while. I was skeptical at first, but bought some for https://amzn.to/3F989fxmy son for his soccer season and they worked great. An added bonus is you won’t be getting dirty looks from people with these like you would with those annoying misting fans that people pay way too much for in the parks that end up not helping do anything except annoy those around you.

Clip-On Stroller Fan

When you think about keeping cool in the parks, don’t forget that the little ones will get hot too! Even being in the shade of a stroller oftentimes isn’t enough to keep them cool (and thus keeping them from being fussy). A stroller fan will help keep everyone happy during your long, hot days at the parks.

Reusable Straws

I bet this is an item not many of you considered to pack in your park bag. There are a couple reasons why this is listed. First, for those that don’t know, in an effort to be more environmentally-friendly, Disney has started using biodegradable straws. While I applaud their efforts to be more environmentally-conscious, it oftentimes leave you drinking from a straw that becomes flimsy quickly. Additionally, for those that don’t know, straws are not allowed in Animal Kingdom at all, so unless you have these, you will find yourself drinking from cups that I would hate to even consider how many fingers have touched prior to you putting your lips to it. Do yourself a favor and get some silicone reusable straws (avoid the metal ones unless you just like metallic taste.

Cell Phone Power Bank

It goes without saying, but you can’t go anywhere nowadays without your cell phone. Walt Disney World is no different, and in fact they basically make it impossible to have a successful day at the theme parks without one. For that reason, you absolutely need a power bank to charge your electronic devices throughout the day. My Disney Experience is notorious for not being battery-friendly, so I can almost guarantee you won’t make it through the day on a single charge if you end up using My Disney Experience even half as much as Disney would like you to. On our last trip, we used a power bank that had built-in charging cables and it made life SO much easier not having a tangle of cords in your bag to mess with when it was time to charge our phones.

Walt Disney World has some of the greatest attractions found in theme parks around the world. However, there are also a few duds. Some of you may have limited time in the parks on your trip and want to know the high points to hit. With that in mind, let’s talk about what I consider the top 10 attractions currently operating at the Walt Disney World. Hopefully, if you are a newbie to Disney World, this list will help give you an idea of what attractions to look forward to most on your first (or next) trip. Let’s cut right to the chase and get into the list!

***This list was created prior to the opening of TRON: Lightcycle Run in Magic Kingdom.  Once I have experience it, I will then update this list accordingly**

Exterior Entrance to Toy Story Mania

10.-Toy Story Mania

Hollywood Studios

Toy Story Mania is located in the Toy Story Land of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It is a competition shooting-style game where you ride with another player and your car moves from one carnival-style game to another while you try to make the highest score. Toy Story Mania is similar to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom, but adds a “4-D” element by having interactive elements within the car. For those of you with a competitive streak, you will definitely enjoy this attraction.

One thing to keep in mind on this attraction is the ride vehicle will spin quickly and make sudden movements, so if you are easily prone to motion sickness, this may be something to keep in mind!

9.-Slinky Dog Dash

 Hollywood Studios

The next attraction on our list is also located in the Toy Story Land area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Slinky Dog Dash is a family-style coaster themed around Andy building a roller coaster in his back yard with his Slinky Dog toy. This is family-style in that it doesn’t go upside down and has no big drops, but it definitely is faster than most “family coasters” you may be used to such as Goofy’s Barnstormer in Magic Kingdom. However, it is not nearly as intense as other coasters at Walt Disney World such as Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom or Rock ‘n Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios.

The wait times for Slinky Dog Dash can be quite long, and most of the queue is not covered in shade. So, keep that in mind and consider snagging a Genie+ Lightning Lane spot for it or hitting it first thing in the morning or late at night right before park closing.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Exterior

8.-Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Magic Kingdom

A more “classic” roller coaster makes our list at number 8. It’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland in Magic Kingdom! This is right next to another of Disney World’s iconic mountains, Splash Mountain (which is now being re-imagined into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure). Big Thunder Mountain is another coaster that may be good if you have kids that are anxious about coasters. The reason for this is it does not go upside down, and does not have any large drops.

One thing to love about Big Thunder Mountain is the ride time is high compared to other coasters in Disney World (looking at you Seven Dwarfs Mine Train). So even if you have to wait a while in the queue at least you will get a decent amount of ride time at the end of your wait. Also, unlike Slinky Dog, the queue is entirely in the shade, keeping you cooler on those hot summer days!

7.-Space Mountain

Magic Kingdom

Next on the list is Space Mountain. This classic attraction is located in the Tomorrowland area of Magic Kingdom. Each car holds three passengers seated one behind the other. The entire ride takes place in the dark, which adds to the “intensity” of this attraction. There are no big drops, or inversions so it may be something worth trying if you are anxious about those types of things.

Additionally, the speed is moderate so the chances of getting motion sick are very low on this attraction, especially since you can’t see anything to disorient yourself with. If interested, do a quick search on YouTube and find a ride video showing Space Mountain with the lights on to ease any fears one may have about riding.

Space Mountain Exterior in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom
Haunted Mansion Exterior

6.-Haunted Mansion

Magic Kingdom

Yet another classic attraction, Haunted Mansion, is located in the Liberty Square area of Magic Kingdom. For most, this ride is more cheesy and funny than it is scary. However, the dark areas and the random noises may scare the little ones so keep that in mind. You begin this attraction in the world famous “stretching room”. From there, you head to the queue to load into your “Doom Buggy” which will take you through a, you guessed it, haunted mansion!

At the end, pay attention as you may see you have picked up an unintentional (or intentional?) hitchhiker along the way!

5.-Avatar: Flight of Passage

Animal Kingdom

The next attraction on our list is located in the Pandora area of Animal Kingdom. Avatar: Flight of Passion is a simulator ride where you “ride” a banshee through Pandora. For those of you familiar, I always refer to Flight of Passage as “Soarin’ on steroids”. It’s a 4-D ride that can simulate drops so if you are easily motion sick, this may be a struggle for you. Otherwise, it is a great experience and rivals for the best attraction in Animal Kingdom.

Something to keep in mind is the standby queue for this attraction can get VERY long. Plan on either buying an Individual Lightning Lane for it. Otherwise, consider heading to it first thing in the morning or late in the day prior to park closing to have the lowest standby wait times.

4.-Expedition Everest

Animal Kingdom

Expedition Everest used to hold the title of best roller coaster in Walt Disney World, in my opinion. It held that title without having a single inversion. The ride itself is a very smooth coaster given its age, and when it first opened, the *spoiler alert* reverse section was an engineering marvel that now multiple coasters around the world use. It does have a few decent drops so that is something to be aware of if you aren’t a fan.

Additionally, the Yeti inside the mountain is illuminated by a strobe effect, so if that sort of thing affects you keep that in mind. The wait times can get long during busy times but there is a single rider queue that might save you a little time depending on the day.

3.-Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Hollywood Studios

The third place attraction is going to be controversial. At third is Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Don’t get me wrong, if you have never experienced this attraction, you will be in awe. This goes for Star Wars fan as well as those that don’t care for the franchise. The issue I have with the attraction is the fact it is so hard to get to ride between either waiting in a super long queue or being forced to pay to ride. Given those options, you may not even be able to ride it, since it is prone to frequent downtime.

This attraction is full of technology and effects that can cause the attraction to go down because of issues quite often. If it was more reliable, it may have been higher on the list, but for something that is so hard to get a chance to ride coupled with its constant down-time moves it down for me. Also, the storyline doesn’t change, so unless you are a Star Wars fanatic, you may not care to ride it more than once a visit.

2.-Twighlight Zone: Tower of Terror

Hollywood Studios

The next attraction on the list is located at the end of Sunset Boulevard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The re-ridability is the reason I have Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at second instead of Rise. Several years ago, imagineers updated the software in this attraction to randomize the drop sequences you experience. A guest could literally board this attraction 20 times in a day and never have the same ride experience twice. For that reason alone it moves ahead of Rise for me.

Additionally, the theming from the moment you step into the queue until you step off the attraction is top notch. Obviously, given the theme as well as the numerous drops you experience in this attraction, it may not be suitable for your younger ones.  Also, due to the drops, this may not be for you if you are prone to motion sickness.

1.-Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

EPCOT

The newest attraction in all of Walt Disney World is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in the Future World section of EPCOT. This is one of those few attractions that live up to the hype for me. It’s not best roller coaster I have been on (that title goes to Velocicoaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure), but as an overall attraction, this is the #1 attraction I have ever been on.

Between the theming, the technology used in the ride, and the fact that the ride experience changes solely based on the song choice you end up with is something that is unmatched. This attraction and Tower of Terror I could ride all day long and never get tired of. It is that great of an attraction!

That wraps up my list of the Top 10 attractions currently operating at Walt Disney World in Florida.  Hopefully this will help give you an idea of what to prioritize on your next trip should your time in the parks be limited.  If you would like to start planning a trip to experience these great attractions, don’t hesitate to request a quote today and let us help you!

No matter the amount of planning you do for any vacation, there are always things that you just can’t account for. One of those is the weather! Granted, you can always prepare for it to be blistering hot if you go in the middle of summer, and plan for lower temps in January. However, you can never anticipate when a rainy day at Disney when planning your family vacation. So that begs the question, what is there to do in Walt Disney World on those unfortunate days of rain during your trip? Let’s dive into some options!

1. Rainy days at Disney don’t close the parks, so still go!

You spend a LOT of money on a Walt Disney World vacation, so there is definitely a lot of reason to just trudge through the rain. Grab the ponchos and rain jackets and hit the parks! For the most part, the parks operate business as usual if it is raining. There are a few exceptions to this, such as Test Track in EPCOT not operating in the event of rain, and of course any outside attraction not operating in the event of lightning.

There are actually some pros to still visiting the parks in the event of the rain. First, and most obvious, is the parks will have much lower crowds.  Most visitors, especially the local annual passholders, will opt against spending the day at the parks and wait for a day with better weather. This will lead to much lower wait times, especially for the top attractions.

Another pro is that on a normal day when the sun is shining, you may be hesitant to ride any of the attractions where you could get wet. This isn’t a concern on a day when you are already walking around in the rain anyway or have a poncho handy already!

Finally, even though it’s raining there are still plenty of indoor attractions, character meet and greets, and dining that you can take advantage of to stay dry!

2. Head to Disney Springs for some bowling, a movie, or shopping!

Another option on a rainy day at Disney is to head to Disney Springs and watch a movie! AMC Disney Springs 24 Dine-In Theaters is a large first-run movie theater in the West Side area of Disney Springs that features reserved seating, food and drink service at your seat, and a fully stocked bar along with theater staples like stadium seating, concession stands, and state of the art audio and video.  One thing to keep in mind though, is there will be a LOT of people with this same line of thinking. So, if you see rain in your forecast, you may want to go online and snag your seats early so you aren’t stuck with nothing to do because everyone else beat you to the punch. Additionally, this is something to be aware of if you aren’t a fan of a full movie theater and like a much more subdued environment to enjoy a quiet movie in.

Near the AMC theater in Disney Springs’ West Side is Splitsville Luxury Lanes, which features 30 lanes of bowling, billiards, restaurant, bar, and live entertainment. Something unique that Splitsville offers is a lane concierge to help you setup your games and optimize your time at your lane.

Similar to going to the movies, Splitsville tends to be VERY busy on rainy days, so online reservations are strongly encouraged in the event of rain in your forecast. However, one thing to keep in mind is that Splitsville, in a Disney-like move, charges more for convenience. You will pay ten dollars more per hour for each hour booked online rather than their standard walk-in rate. Just beware on a rainy day your wait time for a lane if you walk-in can rival some of the top-tier attractions at Disney World on the busiest park day.

3. A Rainy Day at Disney is a Good Reason to Pamper Yourself!

Sometimes you can use the rain to your advantage and pamper yourself.  It’s always a good excuse to refresh from those long days at the park earlier in your trip. There are a few full-service spas around the Walt Disney World resort property, including at the Swan and Dolphin, Saratoga Springs, and Grand Floridian. Additionally, several of the fitness centers in deluxe resorts as well as Coronado Springs offer massage services. Again, keep in mind that anything indoors will be very popular on those rainy days, so it is very important to try and schedule any of these services online. Doing so will save yourself some hassle and relieve any extra stress. Using a rainy day to rest and recharge is never a bad idea to help your body recover from those long days at the parks!

4. Enjoy a Resort Day!

Why even venture far away from your room on a rainy day at Disney? Many of the resorts around Walt Disney World have so many entertainment options that you don’t even have to leave. Particularly the deluxe resorts offer various bars and lounges, and some offer live entertainment in the lobbies. Maybe enjoy a meal at one of the many table service restaurants at the various resorts (assuming there are reservation times available or walk-up availability). Finally, what better way to spend a rainy day than just catching a nap to rest up for your next day at the park!

Value, moderate, or deluxe? There are so many choices when it comes to Disney World Resorts! However, which resort is best for you and your family? This is one of the biggest questions, and oftentimes the biggest decisions, about booking a vacation at Walt Disney World. What are the main differences, and how do they affect your decision when choosing where to stay? Today, let’s discuss these differences and hopefully give you a little insight on which resort level is best for you on your next stay.

Pop Century resort pool area

Disney World Resorts: The Value Resorts

There are five value resorts to choose from at Walt Disney World. Art of Animation, the “newest”, opened in 2012. Pop Century, which sits next to Art of Animation, and the three different All-Star Resorts (Music, Movies, and Sports).

Value resorts, as the name suggests, are the “cheapest” resort accommodations on Walt Disney World property. They all have over-the-top theming, such as gigantic Rubik’s Cubes covering the stairs on the 80’s section buildings at Pop Century. The theming inside the rooms isn’t nearly as prominent as around the resorts, especially with the recent refurbished rooms at the Value Resorts.

The Value Resorts also lack some of the amenities you will find at Deluxe or even the Moderate Resorts. For example, none of the Value Resorts have any table service restaurants, with each only having a food court that offers a decent variety of options. Additionally, you won’t find a water slide at any of the Value Resorts like you can find at all the other resorts. Finally, transportation options to the parks and Disney Springs are limited, with the All-Star Resorts only having bus service to all the parks as well as Disney Springs. Pop Century and Art of Animation have bus service to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs, but also share Disney Skyliner access to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

Disney World Resorts: The Moderate Resorts

The moderate resorts are the “mid-tier” resorts at Walt Disney World. While they are a little more expensive than the Value Resorts, they come with slightly better amenities and generally a little less “in your face” Disney theming found at the Value Resorts.

Each of the Moderate Resorts have at least one table service restaurant in addition to food courts.  At Port Orleans, you have Boatwright’s, which serves a menu inspired by Louisiana cooking.  Caribbean Beach has Sebastian’s Bistro, which serves Caribbean-inspired cuisine.  Finally, Coronado Springs will give you a few options since this is typically Disney’s “conference” resort.  Now that ESPN Zone has closed at Boardwalk, Coronado has what is probably the next best place to catch a game with Rix Sports Bar and Grill.  Additionally, they have Toledo on the rooftop that serves Spanish-inspired cuisine.  Finally, Maya Grill serves more of traditional Tex-Mex fare.

Additionally, each main pool at the moderates has theming tied to the resort’s theme and each main pool contains a water slide also themed to the resort. Moderate Resorts also have hot tubs near the main pool areas, but be sure to ask where the “spa” is when trying to locate it, as Disney does not refer to them as hot tubs.

Finally, transportation options are similar to Value resorts, with bus service being available at all resorts for most parks. Caribbean Beach is on the Skyliner, giving you that as an option for Epcot and Hollywood Studios access. Additionally, guests at either of the Port Orleans resorts have boat access to Disney Springs. Most people forget that the Cabins at Fort Wilderness are technically moderates, and with those you have boat access to Magic Kingdom as well.

Disney World Resorts: The Deluxe Resorts

Technically, Disney claims two more resort categories between Deluxe Resorts and “Deluxe Villa Resorts. For the most part these Deluxe Villa Resorts are sister resorts to their Deluxe counterparts, so I will lump them all together when talking about them. Deluxe resorts are just that, deluxe. They are the best accommodations you will find on Walt Disney World property.

The Deluxe Resorts at Walt Disney World are the top of the top, and as such, you will pay a premium to stay at each of them as well. In true modern Disney fashion, there are also more Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resort options than Moderate and Value resorts combined. With Deluxe Resorts, you generally will have larger rooms than Moderates or Values. Also, the Deluxe Villas excluding the studios, come with full kitchens and a washer and dryer in the unit. The deluxe villas are all Disney Vacation Club properties, so they are built with extended stays in mind, hence why most have full kitchens and washer & dryers.

Deluxe Resorts also have multiple dining options between quick service, table service, and some even have signature dining options, such as Victoria and Albert’s at Grand Floridian. Other great food options at Deluxe Resorts include California Grill at the top of the Contemporary Resort and Yachtsman’s Steakhouse and Yacht Club Resort. Dinner with a view of the castle at California Grill during fireworks at the Magic Kingdom should be on your bucket list if it isn’t already.

The pool areas and water slides generally are themed to the resorts.  The Deluxe Resorts all have hot tubs, or spas, as well. Just a tip, but relaxing for a few minutes in a hot tub after a long day walking around the parks is just what the doctor ordered!

Probably the thing that separates the Deluxe Resorts from Values and Moderates the most to me are the transportation options. If you stay at any of the monorail resorts (Contemporary, Polynesian, or Grand Floridian), you will have monorail access to both Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Those three, along with Wilderness Lodge, also have boat access to Magic Kingdom. Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Yacht Club all have boat access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios and all three are within walking distance to both parks as well.

In conclusion, whichever level of resort you choose; you can’t go wrong. If your family’s budget can include a Deluxe resort stay, go for it! If you are the type that only needs a bed to sleep in because you are always in the park, maybe save your money and stay at a Value resort. For a little of both, choose a moderate resort.

Planning a vacation can be an exciting yet daunting task. With so many options, destinations, and deals available online, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. That’s where a travel agent comes in handy.

Despite the rise of online booking platforms, there are numerous reasons why hiring a travel agent can still be your best bet. In this article, we’ll explore the top reasons to hire a travel agent when booking your next vacation and how their expertise can make your trip memorable. So, why not sit back, relax, and let the professionals take care of the nitty-gritty details?

1. Personalized Expertise

When you enlist the services of a travel agent, you’re tapping into a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Travel agents are well-versed in various destinations and can offer personalized recommendations based on your preferences, interests, and budget.

Whether you’re dreaming of a tropical getaway, a European adventure, or a cultural exploration, travel agents have the inside scoop and can tailor your trip to suit your needs.

Many travel agents specialize in specific categories of travel, making it even easier for you to plan that dream vacation. Some, like Ryan Travels, specialize in Disney Destinations. Others specialize in All-Inclusives, Cruises, or European travel. Finding one that specializes in your niche will make the experience that much easier!

2. Time-saving Convenience of a Travel Agent

Planning a vacation can be time-consuming, especially when you have a busy schedule. By hiring a travel agent, you can save valuable time and energy. Instead of spending hours researching flights, accommodations, and activities, your agent can handle all the logistics for you.

A travel agent can take care of everything from booking your flights to securing hotel reservations, leaving you with more time to focus on other important aspects of your trip.

One thing to keep in mind, is with the airlines becoming increasingly difficult to work with as a third party, there are many travel agents who no longer book airfare unless it is included as part of a package. There are several reasons for this, so make sure you inquire with your chosen travel agent if that is something you need help with.

3. Travel Agents may have Insider Access to Exclusive Deals

Travel agents often have access to exclusive deals, promotions, and discounts that are not readily available to the general public. Due to their extensive network of industry contacts, they can provide you with insider perks such as room upgrades, complimentary breakfasts, and access to VIP events.

Additionally, your agent through their host agency may have access to special offers not available to the general public. Oftentimes, suppliers will reach out to top-performing agencies with special offers to boost sales during important times in their fiscal year.

By harnessing their insider knowledge, your travel agent can help you score the best value for your money without compromising on quality.

4. Travel Agents Can Create Tailored Itineraries

One of the most significant advantages of hiring a travel agent is the opportunity to have a customized itinerary. Based on your preferences and interests, travel agents can create a bespoke itinerary that considers your desired activities, sightseeing, and relaxation time.

With their experience and insights, they can recommend hidden gems, local experiences, and off-the-beaten-path attractions that you might otherwise miss.

5. Peace of Mind and Support

When embarking on a vacation, unexpected issues can arise. Flight delays, cancellations, or changes in itinerary can quickly throw your plans into disarray. However, with a travel agent by your side, you have a dedicated partner who can handle these challenges on your behalf.

Travel agents provide round-the-clock support, ensuring you have peace of mind throughout your trip. Should any unexpected hiccups occur, you’ll have a knowledgeable professional to turn to for assistance and guidance.

6. Cost Savings

Contrary to popular belief, hiring a travel agent can actually save you money in the long run. While some people assume that online platforms offer the best deals, travel agents have access to a wider range of options and can often find more affordable alternatives.

Moreover, they can advise you on the best times to book flights, secure early bird discounts, and package deals that save you money on accommodations, transportation, and activities.

In an era dominated by online booking platforms, hiring a travel agent may seem like a thing of the past. However, when it comes to planning your next vacation, the advantages of enlisting one are evident. From personalized expertise and time-saving convenience to insider access, cost savings, and unmatched support, travel agents can provide a seamless and exceptional travel experience. So, why not sit back, relax, and let the experts handle the details? Invest in a travel agent and embark on a memorable journey that is tailored to your needs and dreams.

If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, you’re in for a treat! However, it’s no secret that a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth can be quite expensive. But fear not, as we are here to help you save some money while still having an unforgettable experience. In this article, we will share with you the top ways to save money on a Disney World vacation, allowing you to make the most out of your trip without breaking the bank.

1.-Plan ahead and go during a “slow” period

Timing is everything when it comes to planning a Disney World vacation. By visiting during the off-season, you can take advantage of lower prices on accommodations, tickets, and even dining. If possible, avoiding peak times such as school breaks and holidays can save you a significant amount of money and enable you to enjoy shorter lines and smaller crowds.

2.-Finding Disney World savings may mean staying at an off-site hotel

While Disney World has an array of beautiful, themed resorts, staying off-property can save you a substantial amount of money. Explore nearby hotels that offer shuttle services to the theme parks and compare prices. Often, you may find comparable accommodation options at a fraction of the cost of staying within the Disney resort area.

3.-Bring your own snacks and drinks into the parks

One of the most significant expenses at Disney World can be food and beverages. By bringing your own snacks and drinks into the park, you’ll not only save money but also have the convenience of having your favorite treats readily available. Pack some sandwiches, fruits, and refillable water bottles to keep yourself energized throughout the day. Keep in mind glass containers are not allowed in the park, so don’t make that mistake and end up having to throw out your snacks or drinks before even getting in the park!

4.- Get a Disney Rewards VISA card

The next tip to unlock magical savings on your Walt Disney World vacation is to get approved for the Chase Disney Rewards VISA. (Clicking the link will take you to the Chase webpage, which may result in Ryan Travels receiving compensation) There are a few different reasons this can save you money on your next trip. First, you can earn rewards points on all your everyday purchases that you can then redeem for a “Disney Redemption Card” which is basically a Disney Gift Card. You can then turn around and use this redemption card to pay for almost anything Disney-related whether that be a vacation, souvenirs, meals in the park, etc.

Oftentimes, Disney will run special offers and promotions solely for those that have a Disney Rewards VISA. In the past this has ranged from extended dates to be able to book the free dining promotion with the Disney Dining Plan, or up to 35% off certain resorts. I recently was able to book a client in Port Orleans Riverside in a Woods View room for a week with park tickets for a price basically cheaper than a rack rate Value Resort stay for the same week, simply because they had a Disney VISA and were able to put the $200 deposit on the card. The rest of the trip you can pay however you want, but as long as you put the deposit on you Disney VISA card, you qualify for the discount on your entire cost of the trip.

Additionally, many retail shops and select dining locations around the Walt Disney World resort offer discounts if you use your Disney VISA when paying. Usually it is no more than 10 percent, but any savings you can make when planning for a Walt Disney World vacation or even while at Disney World you should absolutely take advantage of.

Finally, vacations to Disney Destinations paid with your Chase Disney Rewards card are able to take up to six months of 0% financing! This allows you more time to pay off that vacation without paying interest! Just another way to take advantage of those Disney World savings!

5.-Take advantage of Disney Dining Plans

If you do plan on dining within the theme parks or resorts, consider purchasing a Disney Dining Plan. These plans offer pre-paid dining credits that can help you save on meal expenses. Analyze the different dining plan options available and choose the one that suits your needs and budget the best. Make sure you maximize the value of any dining plan by trying to dine at the more expensive locations or choosing more expensive food items.

6.-Research and Compare Ticket Options

When it comes to tickets, Disney World offers various options, including single-day tickets, multi-day tickets, park hoppers, and annual passes. Research the different ticket types and compare prices to find the best deal for your party. Keep in mind that multi-day tickets often provide more value for money and can be a great choice if you plan to spend several days exploring the parks.

7.-Use Genie+ Wisely

Disney’s Genie+ system allows you to skip the lines and reserve access to select attractions, shows, and character greetings in advance. Make sure to take full advantage of this service by booking your Lightning Lane choices at the appropriate time. This will not only save you valuable time but also ensure that you can experience your favorite attractions without waiting for hours. This allows you to experience more of the parks in a shorter amount of time.

8.-Utilize Disney Transportation

Disney offers complimentary transportation from select hotels to the theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs. Take advantage of this service to save money on transportation costs. Avoiding parking fees and the hassle of driving yourself can be a significant benefit, allowing you to relax and enjoy the magic of Disney World.

9.-Research Special Offers and other discounts

Disney World frequently provides special offers and discounts, such as free dining plans or discounted tickets. Stay updated by following their official website and social media channels for the latest promotions.

10.-Using a travel agent is the best route to Disney World savings!

Yes, my final tip is a little (ok, a lot!) self-serving, but it’s the truth. Using the services of a travel agent may save you hundreds of dollars! Travel agents are the first to hear of special offers and are on the phones ready to book or apply them to their clients’ reservations the minute they are open for booking. Also, using a travel agent can save you the time and hassle of constantly being on the lookout for new deals. Finally, a travel agent can help you with when to go, where to stay, and where to eat all based on your preferences.

By implementing these top ways to save money on a Disney World vacation, you can have an incredible experience while keeping your finances in check. Remember to plan ahead, research your options, and take advantage of any discounts available. Have a magical time exploring the wonders of Disney without worrying about breaking the bank!
